Personal Profile: Stepz Dance Academy is owned by Kirsty Brown who started her training as a dancer in 1983 at with Tony Bennett (father of BBC 1's Strictly Come dancing champion Darren Bennett) She trained for a number of years in Disco and Rock & Roll entering many competitions before became the North Regional 'Disco Dancing Champion' in 1985. Kirsty completed her training and sat a further three exams, at the age of eighteen, passing all three with honours. In 1988-89 Kirsty studied with the London Central Y.M.C.A becoming a fitness instructor and formed her own business teaching Fitness to both children and adults. Kirsty grew a very successful business for a number of years, but it was whilst bringing up her young family that she realised there was a gap in the market for lessons where students could learn to dance just for fun, without having to go through the usual structure of a traditional dance class and exams. From this Kirsty started a summer dance workshop in the school holidays which resulted in the expansion of Stepz and launching her higher into her teaching career. On an average week Kirsty teaches over 500 students and as well as being the proprietor of Stepz Kirsty is also a community dance teacher for several of the local schools in Sheffield. Kirsty has received awards from the local Business & Education Department for her commitment to work experience for students and continues to offer this opportunity for the next generation of dancers. |

Company History As a company we've been involved in the dance / fitness industry since 1989 running various classes including aerobics, step, callenetics, cardio funk and circuit training. Equipment rental contributed to the business side but as times changed so did we when we and in 1999 we decided to create a dance academy and so Stepz was born. We believe the success of our academy is due to a number of key points, friends, family, creative instructors, fun and most of all no exams, we leave the kids to make friends, have fun and dance. |
